The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Transportation, has directed that the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service should resume on May 23.

The spokesman for the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Yakub Mahmood, made this known in a statement issued in Lagos.

Mahmood said the corporation wished to inform its valued customers that additional security measures were being put in place at both the train stations and the track to ensure the safety of passengers onboard.

He said such measures were not only for the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service but also for all the passenger train services, especially on the standard gauge railway lines.

Recall that a Kaduna-bound train from Abuja was attacked on March 28 by armed bandits, during which at least eight persons were reportedly killed and others kidnapped or missing. The NRC on March 29 suspended train operations along the Abuja-Kaduna route indefinitely after the bombing by terrorists.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be arriving Akwa Ibom state today for the commissioning of projects in the state.

Osinbajo’s visit to the state follows an invitation by the governor Udom Emmanuel, who has promised to complete all projects initiated by his administration before the end of his tenure.

The Federal Government has assured that it is working towards reliable power grid to ensure efficient electricity supply in the country.

The Minister of Power,  Abubakar Aliyu, gave the assurance in Abuja at an interactive session on “Frequent National Grid collapse”, with the Senate Committee on Power and critical stakeholders.

Aliyu said that there had been three collapses from March to April, saying that lately, cases of system collapse have been on the decline. He said that the country has witnessed improvement in the grid stability over the years.

According to the the minister, the system collapse usually occurred when there were imbalances between the connected generation, transmission and distribution network, adding that the government was doing everything within its power to ensure that the country had a reliable grid.

In Lagos State, some union leaders have tasked the Federal Government on upward review of the current 30,000 naira minimum wage of Nigerian workers.
According to the union, the minimum wage must be a living wage, commensurate with rising costs of living due to inflation. The union said that the review of the minimum wage would help ameliorate the hardship borne by civil servants.

On his part, Adeleye Ajayi, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Lagos State chapter,said that Nigerian workers must earn good salaries and wages in order to live a good life. He added that as inflation keeps rising daily, there is need for federal Government to increase workers salaries.
In his speech, he said that government appointees at the helm of affairs should ensure prudence in the management of the nation’s resources and look for ways to create jobs for the teeming youthful population.

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that the battle waged against terrorists is approaching its conclusion and “victory is within sight”.

The president gave the assurance in his Sallah message to Nigerians as Ramadan reached its end.

The President, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, appraised the security situation across the country and pointed out that “Last month, the leader of ISWAP was killed in an airstrike. He further mentioned that thousands of fighters have surrendered to enter rehabilitation programmes since the beginning of this year.

Buhari stressed that the battle waged against terrorists who falsely masquerade under the name of Islam is approaching its conclusion.

“With the designation of bandit groups as terrorists, the challenges of banditry and kidnapping are being tackled differently in the North-western and North Central states where the latest military acquisitions and the Armed Forces are being fanned out across the region to thwart acts of terror.

“The administration is equally getting impressive reports of the special operations to curb crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering in the South-South, with millions of illegally refined products being impounded and illegal refineries destroyed.” he added.
