PDP to announce running mate to its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar tomorrow, June 16

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will tomorrow, Thursday, the 16^th day of June announce the running mate to its presidential candidate, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

The party’s National Chairman, Iyiochia Ayu, disclosed this in Abuja before the commencement of a committee saddled with the responsibility of picking the vice-presidential candidate. According to reports, those who are lobbying for the slot include the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his Delta State counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa. Ayu explained that the meeting was in furtherance of consultations aimed at arriving at a choice which Nigerians would be glad to elect into office.

As a result, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has approved composition of a committee that will screen the party’s nominated vice presidential candidate. According to the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, members of the committee include the Chairman, High Chief Tom Ikimi; Secretary, Dr. Akilu Indabawa; Administrative Secretary, Sunday Omobo amongst others. Meanwhile, the screening exercise will be held at the National Working Committee Hall, Wadata Plaza, Abuja by 10am prompt.

Rochas Okorocha Released, Screened By APC Committee Screening Presidential Aspirants

The former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has been screened by the All Progressives Congress (APC) committee screening presidential aspirants.

Okorocha was screened at the Transcorp Hilton venue of the exercise. Recall that earlier, reports had said the Federal High Court in Abuja granted Okorocha bail with a directive that he should remain in custody until the bail conditions are met. Justice Inyang Ekwo, while granting Okorocha bail, imposed a 500 million naira bail bond with one surety in a likesome who must be within the jurisdiction of the court.

Ekwo directed the Federal High Court registry to verify the documents of property to be presented as bail bonds. He also ordered Okorocha, who is being prosecuted by the EFCC for allegedly stealing state funds while he was governor, to deposit his international passport with the court registry. However, the former governor was able to meet the bail conditions and make it to the venue of the screening.

Speaking to journalists after the screening, Okorocha said he came directly from the EFCC’s custody to the venue. He also agreed with the call for a consensus candidate, noting that the consensus can only be achieved by ensuring that all the aspirants are allowed to reach such agreement. Meanwhile, a total of 23 aspirants remain in the race for the APC’s presidential ticket.

APC To Conduct Primary Elections For Governorship And House Of Assembly Seats Today

Following the revised timetable approved by the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), notice is hereby given on the Conduct of primary elections for the Governorship and the House of Assembly Seats.

According to a release signed by APC Deputy Publicity Secretary, Ubong Friday Ekpo, the exercise will hold today by 8am to 1pm; 1pm-4pm with State delegates and Local Government Area delegates respectively at the designated centers.

Nomination of candidates for the House of Representatives and Senate shall hold on Friday, 27th May, 2022 by 12noon-4pm and on Saturday, 28th May, 2022 by 2pm to 6pm with Local Government Area delegates respectively at the scheduled venues across the Constituencies.

All aspirants who were successfully screened and cleared are invited to participate in the exercise. The venue for the nomination across the state is pasted on the notice board of the APC State Secretariat, at number 6 Ekpo Obot street, Uyo.

Furthermore, the release added that the APC has adopted the Indirect Primary mode of Election to nominate its flag bearers for the 2023 general elections. To this end, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Akwa Ibom State, Obong Stephen Leo Ntukekpo directs all aspirants and delegates to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the duration of the exercise.

Rivers State: Governor Nyesom Wike Dissolves State Executive Council

Governor, Nyesom Wike, has dissolved the State Executive Council.

The special assistant to the governor on media, Kelvin Ebiri, who announced this in a statement said the dissolution of the cabinet was with immediate effect.

He added that the Chief of Staff to the governor and his Senior Special Assistant (Protocol) have been relieved of their office.

Governor Wike, in the statement, commended the members of the Rivers State Executive Council for their service and contribution to the development of the state and wished them the best in all their future endeavours. He instructed all the former members of his cabinet to hand over to the most senior officers in their respective ministries.

APC Postpones Today’s Presidential Screening Exercise Again

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly postponed the screening of the 25 presidential aspirants slated for today, May 23.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka, announced the postponement in a statement, although no reason was given for the change in plan.

Morka added that a new date for the screening exercise will be communicated to the public shortly, without mentioning any specific time. Recall that this is the second time that the APC National Working Committee will shift the date of the presidential screening after it failed to hold last weekend.

PDP’s NEC Dismisses Zoning, Throws Presidential Ticket Open Ahead Of Primaries

The National Executive Committee-NEC of the People’s Democratic Party-PDP, has thrown open its presidential ticket ahead of its Presidential primaries slated for May 28 – 29, 2022.

The decision came after its 96th meeting held at its Wadata Plaza National Secretariat. According to the Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the NEC has also appointed former Senate President David Mark to chair its convention planning committee.

Ologunagba said NEC assured of free, fair, credible and transparent processes for the emergence of their Party’s Candidates for all elective positions in the 2023 general elections.

The NEC also restated its call from last Saturday, for the arrest and prosecution of the Central Bank Governor, Dr Godwin Emefiele, who, last Friday obtained copies of his nomination and expression of interest forms to compete for the All-Progressives Congress Presidential ticket.

“NEC vehemently rejected the continued stay of Emefiele as CBN Governor after being confirmed as a card-carrying member of the APC.

Jonathan Rejects Group’s Purchase Of APC Presidential Form

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has rejected the N100 million worth All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination and expression of interest forms purchased by nomadic Fulani pastoralists and Almajiri communities.

Jonathan’s media adviser, Mr.Ikechukwu Eze, in a statement released on Monday, stated that the former president turned down the offer, insisting that it was an insult to buy such forms for him without his consent.

“It has come to our notice that a group has purportedly purchased Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms, of the All Progressives Congress APC, in the name of former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“We wish to categorically state that Dr. Jonathan was not aware of this bid and did not authorize it. We want to state that if the former President wanted to contest an election, he would make his intentions clear to the public and would not enter through the back door.

“While we appreciate the overwhelming request by a cross-section of Nigerians, for Dr. Jonathan to make himself available for the 2023 Presidential election, we wish to state that he has not in anyway, committed himself to this request. Buying a presidential aspiration form in the name Dr. Jonathan without his consent, knowing the position he had held in this country, is considered an insult to his person. The general public is therefore advised to disregard it.” he added

On his part, the leader of the nomadic Fulani pastoralists and Almajiri communities, Ibrahim Abdullahi, had earlier told newsmen after picking the forms that Jonathan should be re-elected to enable him to complete what he began. Among other things, he said Jonathan was the first president since the country gained independence in 1960 that found it expedient, through his magnanimity, to remember the Almajiri community.

INEC Gives Political Parties One Month To Conduct Primaries

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reminded political parties that they have one month to conduct their primaries and present candidates for the 2023 general elections.

INEC’s reminder came in a statement issued by its National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye.

The statement also promised that the Commission will continue to work with political parties to ensure fidelity to the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the timelines for all the activities contained in the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2023 general elections.

According to the electoral body, political parties are expected to follow the timetable and schedule of activities as released by the commission ahead of the polls. It explained that parties are “to conduct their primaries for the nomination of candidates from 4th April to 3rd June 2022”.

Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade Joins Presidential Race On Ruling APC Platform

Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade has joined the list of presidential aspirants on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ayade disclosed his decision to State House Correspondents after meeting with President Buhari in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, stating that he was actually asked to join the race by the President.

The Governor also said he would be flexible with his quest for the APC’s presidential ticket, explaining that he would be subject to whatever decision the party and support any person settled for as the flag-bearer.

Buhari said that the French President’s victory makes history as the only sitting leader of the country to return in two decades.
