The immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission – INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has been applauded for his decision to step aside and hand over to an acting chairman who will oversee the affairs of the agency pending the confirmation of his re-appointment by the Senate.
The National Coordinator, PDP Youth Alliance, Dr. Charles Omini who stated this in a chat with our correspondent Anthony Esin in Uyo said despite the criticisms against his decision in some quarters, the decision of the INEC boss was in line with the law.
On the preparation by the Commission ahead of the 2023 general elections, Dr. Omini, however, advocated the application of e-voting, noting that the advantages of the e-voting process would be enormous for the nation’s democracy.
President Muhammadu Buhari had recently re-appointed Yakubu as the chairman of the electoral commission. The reappointment is, however, subject to a Senate confirmation.
