INEC Reports Over Eight Million Registered Through Online Voter Portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over eight million Nigerians have completed online registration in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

According to INEC’s breakdown, women slightly outnumber men, with 4,190,890 female registrants (52.37%) compared to 3,812,306 males (47.63%).

Young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 constitute the largest demographic, making up 5,533,514 registrants (69.14%). They are followed by the middle-aged group (35–49 years) with 1,678,212 (20.97%), and older citizens (50–69 years) with 704,866 (8.81%).

By occupation, students lead the pack with 2,018,967 registrations (25.23%), followed by business professionals (1,659,690 or 20.74%). Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) accounted for 182,718 registrants (2.29%).

At the state level, Imo State topped the chart with 826,850 registrations (10.32%), followed by Lagos State with 604,619 (7.56%), and Ogun State with 510,062 (6.37%). Yobe State recorded the lowest participation, with just 2,714 registrations (0.03%).

INEC noted that registration in Anambra State remains suspended in line with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, pending the conclusion of the November 8 governorship election.

So far, 1,710,450 Nigerians have completed both online pre-registration and physical biometric capture. Of this number, 956,566 completed their registration online, while 753,884 registered at physical centers.

Youth participation continues to dominate, with 1,261,288 registrants aged 18–34 (73.74%). Women again lead in gender representation, accounting for 945,305 (55.27%) compared to 765,145 men (44.73%). PWDs make up 24,207 (1.41%) of the total.

In terms of occupation, students remain the largest group with 566,391 completed registrations (33.11%), followed by businesspersons (316,295 or 18.49%) and housewives (259,932 or 15.28%).
