The Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly has been tasked to expedite efforts in ensuring that the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill receives urgent executive assent and is domesticated in the state, as the content of the bill benefits not just women, but the generality of humanity.
Speaking with Planet News, the immediate past chairman, Nigeria Bar Association – NBA, Uyo branch, Barrister Eno Akpan, observed that Akwa Ibom state cannot be left behind in accenting to the bill, and urged the legislature and the executive to work hand in hand in giving the bill the required rapid attention.
Barrister Akpan took out time to explain the imports of the bill, and the various lapses in existing laws regulating violence against persons, which the new bill seeks to address.
Barrister Eno stressed that whoever is opposed to the passage of the violence against person prohibition bill into law clearly does not have a clear grasp of the vital societal concerns that the bill addresses.
