Akwa Ibom State Government recieves commendation for curbing child abuse and trafficking

Akwa Ibom State Government has been commended for partnering with the state National Human rights commission-NHRC, law enforcement agencies and other relevant bodies in ensuring that the issue of child abuse and trafficking is completely nipped in the bud in the state.

The state coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission, Tony Iji, who gave the commendation in a chat with planet news, said the efforts of the state technical working group on the rights of Orphan and Vulnerable Children and other child protection partners has contributed to the successes recorded in the fight against child abuse and theft.

While stating that parental responsibility in protecting the child cannot be over emphasized, Iji appealed to parents and care givers not to fail in their responsibilities to avoid the violation of their children’s rights.

Our correspondent Jane Uwa reports that the state National Human Rights Boss further used the occasion to warn violators of children’s rights to refrain from the act, as the commission will deal decisively with offenders once caught.
