Akwa Ibom State government tasked on reviving ancient policing system EKPE UKPO-KOD as community policing strategy.

An ethnic-communicology, Professor Des Wilson has called on the Akwa Ibom State government to emulate the approach of the South-West States and revive the ancient policing system EKPE UKPO-KOD as a community policing effort to address insecurity in parts of the state.

Professor Wilson while speaking with Planet News said the need for community policing was long overdue following the increasing rate of insecurity in different parts of the country and commended the introduction of Operation Amotekun in the South-West and Operation SHEGE KA FASA in the North.

Describing security as a collective business, he said it was time for members of the community to take charge of their safety in collaboration with the conventional security system, adding that with the role played by EKPE UKPO-KOD in the past, peace, security and order could be restored in communities in Akwa Ibom.

On the renewed call for President Muhammadu Buhari to resign, the Professor of Communication said it was normal in a democratic setting for such calls to be made especially when situations in the country are going bad.
