President Muhammadu Buhari has been commended for his decision to reduce the number and duration of foreign trips embarked upon by ministers and other categories of government officials in the country.
A public analyst Dr. Etefia Ekanem who spoke with Planet News noted that reducing the number and duration of foreign trips for government officials would not only serve as ‘cost-saving measure’ but also help to checkmate excesses and abnormalities by the government officials.
While observing that the major reason for engaging in foreign trips by public officials centers on medical needs, Dr. Ekanem, however, said that developing and equipping the medical sector in the country would be the best way to dissuade Nigerians from embarking on frequent foreign trips.
President Muhammadu Buhari had in a statement signed by the Director of Information at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, placed a temporary ban on foreign travels by all members of his cabinet and other government officials.
The President also removed travel allowances known as estacode, while he also cut down the number of persons permitted to travel with ministers and other government officials for official trip.
