China Stands Firm with Nigeria, Slams U.S. Military Threats

China has issued a strong warning to the United States and other foreign powers, demanding they respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and steer clear of interference in the nation’s internal affairs.

In a fiery statement published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning reaffirmed Beijing’s “unshakable” support for President Bola Tinubu’s government. She hailed Nigeria for charting its own course of development and warned against any external attempts to dictate its future.

“As Nigeria’s strategic partner, China firmly rejects any move by foreign forces to exploit issues of religion or human rights as an excuse to meddle in another country’s domestic matters or to impose sanctions and military threats,” Mao declared at a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

Her remarks come amid escalating tensions after reports surfaced that U.S. President Donald Trump allegedly threatened military action against Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

Beijing’s sharp rebuke underscores a growing global power rift, with China openly siding with Nigeria and condemning Washington’s hardline stance. The message from Beijing is unmistakable: hands off Nigeria’s sovereignty.
