Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has commended the church for their role towards the sustenance of peace in the state while also reiterating his commitment to maintaining the existing harmony and unity in the state.
Governor Emmanuel who stated this while addressing the congregation at the Catholic diocesan new year fasting and prayers Assembly, held at Cardinal Ekandem seminary grounds, Dominic utuk avenue uyo, expressed optimism that the prayers would bring an enduring peace and ensure a transparent, credible and violent free election in the state and country.
While thanking God for the peace and the Christian body for their fervency in prayer, the Governor stressed that his administration is committed to preparing a sustainable future for Akwa Ibom children adding that politics is not meant to breach the existing unity in the State.
On his part the Managing Director of NDDC. Obong Nsima Ekere called on the church to pray for peace in Akwa Ibom during the election period and for a free and credible polls that would enable God bring in whom he desires to saddle the affairs of the state.
Earlier the Bishop of Uyo diocese of the Catholic Church, Bishop John Aya used the occasion to appreciate Governor Emmanuel for the rehabilitation of the St. Luke’s hospital Anua and also lauded Ekere for the rehabilitation of the roads in the seminary and one of the school blocks.
