Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, described as sad and painful, the death of five prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, four of which were from the state.
The governor who stated this when the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, visited him at Government House, Uyo to commiserate with the people of the state over the incident, said he received the news of the deaths with a heavy heart and prayed God to give the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
Governor Emmanuel thanked the leadership of the NYSC led by the Director-General for the prompt visit, noting that officials of the state government will soon pay condolence visits to each of the families.
Earlier, in his speech, the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Ibrahim, said he was in the state to commiserate the government and people of the state over the loss of the five Prospective Corp Members.
The NYSC DG listed those who lost their lives as Asuquo Miracle Effiong, Ekikoh Stella Sylvester, Ezuruike Coleman Chikwodo, Upere Innocent Peter and Akpan Victor Joseph.
Government house correspondent Jane Uwa reports that the five prospective Corp Members reportedly lost their lives in a fatal road accident in the early hours of Wednesday, July 28, along the Abaji-Kwali Expressway, on their way to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Katsina State.
