The Ibibio ethnic nationality in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria’s fourth largest tribe will today crown its new Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence, Nteyin Solomon David Etuk who is the fourth Oku Ibom in the series and succeeds His Eminence, Akwa Edidem Akpabio Udo Ukpa who passed away about two years ago.
The new Oku Ibom Ibibio, who is the paramount ruler of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, will accordingly serve as the President General of the Supreme Council of Ibibio Traditional Rulers and the Patriarch for the over five million Ibibios worldwide.
Today’s coronation ceremony at the Asan Ibibio by 10am is the climax of the traditional processes for the emergence of a new Oku Ibom, which began with the selection on Friday, September 14, and followed with the proclamation ritual on Saturday, November 17, this year.
Prominent traditional rulers expected to be in attendance include the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11, and the Obong of Calabar His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Abasi the fifth while governor, Udom Emmanuel, will be the special guest of honour.
According to a release jointly signed by the Secretary of the Central Planning Committee, Akparawa Fiok-idaha Umoh and Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee, Elder Patrick Albert, all arrangement have been put in place to ensure a successful coronation ceremony.
