The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has called on the National Assembly to fast-track the approval of proposed amendments to Nigeria’s electoral legal framework. He made this appeal on Thursday in Abuja during a meeting with the European Union (EU) Election Observation Follow-up Mission to Nigeria, led by Barry Andrews, who also headed the EU Mission during the 2023 General Election.
Yakubu stressed that the timely passage of the amended electoral law is essential for INEC to plan effectively for the upcoming general election.
“Uncertainty surrounding the legal framework can disrupt the commission’s preparations as the election approaches,” he warned.
