Residents of Uyo decries FG’s plan to regulate use of social media in Nigeria.

Residents reacted to the plan by federal government to regulate the use of social media in the country, describing the move as contravening the constitutional right and freedom of speech which is a global practice.

A cross section of residents in Uyo bared their minds on the issue in a vox pop with Planet News said regulating the use of social media is not the best option by the government.

Also commenting on the matter, a legal practitioner, Raphael Etti who spoke with our correspondent Jane Uwa, however, said the measure would be ideal as it will help checkmate excesses of those who habitually indulge in using the social media platform for abusive tendencies.

Recall that the Federal Government had insisted on regulating the social media in the country, vowing not to be intimidated by critics to jettison the plan as disclosed by Information Minister Lai Mohammed who briefed State House correspondents after the last Federal Executive Council FEC meeting.
