Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly makes move to rid former Uyo Main Market of miscreants
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has considered a Motion on urgent need to rid the premises of former Uyo Main Market of miscreants terrorizing the area mostly at night.
Member representing Uyo State Constituency, Anietie Eka, in a Motion, observed that the former market is presently a breeding ground for armed robbers, rapists and other hoodlums.
According to the lawmaker, the hoodlums disguise as hawkers and traders around the popular Ibom Plaza during the day time but revert to their devilish activities at night. He urged security agents to live up to their responsibilities by identifying and apprehending the culprits.
Responding, the Speaker, Aniekan Bassey referred the Motion to the Joint Committee on Environment, Youths, Sports and Security for in-depth study and to report back to the House within one month.
Also at plenary, our House of Assembly correspondent, Anthony Esin reports that the Akwa Ibom State Anti-Stigma and Discrimination of Persons Living with HIV/AIDS Law, 2020 sponsored by member representing Abak State Constituency, Udeme Otong, scaled through Second Reading and was committed to the House Committee on Health for further legislative action.
