AKSG plans relief materials to cushion effects of lockdown
Akwa Ibom State government says plans are underway for the provision of relief materials for the people to cushion and ameliorate the effects of the lockdown and Restriction of Movement Regulations 2020.
The Secretary to the State government, SSG, Doctor Emmanuel Ekuwem, who stated this while giving an update on the COVID 19 situation in the state, said items to be distributed include rice, garri, flour, and other essential food items, adding that the disbursement committee set up for the purpose, will soon announce modalities for direct disbursement to all villages in the state.
On the five reported positive test cases of COVID 19 in the state earlier taken into isolation, Doctor Ekuwem said all affected persons are hale and hearty while awaiting the conduct of a re-confirmation test.

While announcing that construction work has commenced on a 300-bed Isolation Centre in Ituk Mbang to complement existing Isolation Centres in Ikot Ekpene and Ibom Specialist Hospital, Uyo, the SSG further disclosed that Personal Protective Equipment have been distributed to relevant health care institutions in the state.
our correspondent Jane Uwa reports that Doctor Ekuwem, therefore, enjoined residents and citizens of the state to continue to observe all personal and respiratory hygiene guidelines earlier issued and adhere to the social distancing prescriptions, while also observing in full the lockdown order as defaulters once arrested, will be prosecuted.
