Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health warns butchers against burning tires to roast animals for meat
Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health has warned meat sellers in the state against the practice of burning tires to roast animals for meat, saying such practice poses serious threat to public health.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong who stated this in an exclusive interaction with Planet News after some members of the public raised the issue on Peoples Parliament, Planet FM’s morning show, said the practice could lead to health problems such as kidney diseases for people who consume such meats.
According to Dr. Ukpong, the ministry will do everything within its purview to curb the menace through the Veterinary Services Department which he said is exclusively vested with the responsibility to regulate such activities.
Our correspondent, Anthony Esin reports that the Health Commissioner further advised slaughterhouse operators in the state to always maintain proper hygiene, sanity of the environment and operate by rules, in order to ensure good public health in the state.
