Akwa Ibom State Government promises to resume enforcement of law against illegal street trading
Akwa Ibom State Government has promised to resume enforcement of law against illegal street trading following the expiration of ultimatum given to those involved to move their goods to designated market places in Uyo, the state capital.
Ikim who expressed worry over the menace said the government will do everything within the law to combat the situation which he said was not only defacing the state capital, endangering lives of the traders and commuters but was also against Akwa Ibom Environmental Protection and waste management Agency law cap 47, 2000.
While advising road side traders to seek alternative locations provided by the state government, the chairman of the agency attributed most of the indiscriminate waste in the state capital to the illegal activities and called on all indigenes and residents to join hands with government to keep the state clean to avoid breakout of diseases.
He said the state government was also working to ensure proper management of the dumpsite along Uyo village road to enhance hygiene and safety.
