Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Governor Udom calls for immortalization of fallen heroes
The Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has commended the Nigerian Armed forces for their selfless service and contribution towards the protection and sustenance of the country’s territorial integrity while urging the people to promote a just and egalitarian society as a way of immortalizing the fallen heroes in the country.
The Governor who gave the commendation in his address, at the Grand Finale of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration and Laying of wreaths in Uyo thanked the fallen heroes for laying their lives for the country, saying such sacrifice was an act of love for the nation and reiterated the commitment of his administration to the welfare of the Nigerian Legionnaires.
While urging Nigerians to eschew rancor and politics of violence ahead of the forth coming elections, Governor Emmanuel charged the people to honor the memory of the heroes by negating issues and tendencies that will lead to war.
Government House correspondent Jane Uwa reports that high point of the event which also featured the blowing of the last post, and gun salutes in memory of the slain soldiers was the laying of wreaths, in honor of the departed soldiers, led by the Governor Udom Emmanuel, his deputy Moses Ekpo, speaker of the state house of assembly Onofiok Luke and the state chief judge Godwin Abraham, amongst other dignitaries.
