James Maddison has withdrawn from the England squad for November’s European 2024 qualifiers with an ankle injury.

The 26-year-old midfielder sustained the injury in Tottenham’s chaotic 4-1 defeat by Chelsea in the Premier League on Monday.

England plays Malta at Wembley on Friday, 17 November before travelling to North Macedonia three days later.

Tottenham said Maddison would “remain at Hotspur Way for rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff”.

However, the club did not mention how long they expect the playmaker to be sidelined for.

Recall that Maddison has scored three goals and made five assists in 11 Premier League games for Spurs since joining for 40 million pound from Leicester City in June.
