In a sharp critique, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has condemned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accusing him of attempting to distract the nation during a period of mourning.
Keyamo took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disapproval of Atiku’s decision to quit the PDP barely a day after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari. The minister described the timing of the resignation as “inappropriate” and disrespectful to the national grief.
Beyond the resignation, Keyamo also raised serious legal and ethical concerns about Atiku’s continued use of the Nigerian coat of arms in his personal communications. The minister warned that such usage “borders on impersonation,” emphasizing that the coat of arms is a protected national symbol and its unauthorized use could lead to legal consequences.
This development adds to the ongoing political tensions following Atiku’s departure from the PDP, a move that has sparked varied reactions across the political spectrum.
Keyamo’s comments underscore the importance of respecting national symbols and exercising sensitivity during times of national mourning.
