Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has called on the citizenry to ensure that they are duly enlisted in the State Social Register, to enable them benefit in the State government‘s Bulk Purchase Intervention programme, as the enabling law for the implementation of the programme has been put in place.
He explained that the Social Register will serve as a document for the implementation of the Bulk Purchase Intervention, assuring that activities of middlemen would be streamlined to enable the poorest of the poor who are prime targets of the intervention to benefit maximally in the Bulk Purchase programme.
Governor Eno was addressing the congregation at All Nations Christian Ministry where he worshipped alongside his wife Pastor Patience Uno Eno and some State Executive Council members on the first Sunday to usher in the month of March.
The governor added that to further make the project serviceable, a redeemable food voucher will be introduced into the process, adding that the food vouchers will be redeemable in any of the government set-up redemption centers to be stationed in several markets across the State.
He noted that holders of the food voucher will be entitled to a discount when they buy the food items from the government set up redemption centers.
The Governor therefore warned mischief makers seeking to thwart government’s good intention to stabilize the cost of food commodities by forging vouchers for their selfish interest, to desist from such contemplation as government will go after such people by locking them up to serve as a deterrent to others.
