Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly receives Letter from Governor Umo Eno Seeking Tenure Extension for Local Government Chairmen

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has received a letter from Governor Umo Eno seeking the extension of the tenure of Transition Chairmen in the State.

This is just as the house has tasked the transition chairman of the 31 Local Government Area to reveal projects done within the last six months.

The house made the resolution after a message from the Executive Governor; Pastor Umo Eno was read on the floor of the House during Plenary yesterday.

Clerk of the House, Nsikak-Abasi Orok who read the message quoted the Governor requesting for an extension of interim administration to enable the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) Conduct fresh elections for Local Government Executive Members.

Acknowledging the message of the Governor, Speaker of the House, Udeme Otong directed the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to visit the thirty-one local Government Area in the State to check the work done within the last six months.

It would be recalled that Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno swore in Transition members of various Local Government Areas in December 2023 and are expected to be dissolved in June 2024.
