Akwa Ibom State Journalists Promise To Continue Playing Watch Dog Role Professionally as World Press Freedom Day is Marked Today

As world press freedom day is commemorated today, focus has been channeled to reappraise achievements of the press and projections for the future for better information management in the state and Nigeria at large.

Speaking on the theme of the year being “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of Expression as a Driver for all Other Human Rights”, the chairman Nigerian Union of Journalist – NUJ Akwa Ibom state branch, Comrade Amos Etuk noted that this year’s edition is significant, as it is the 30th edition since the proclamation of the date in 1993 for the celebration of press freedom day.

The NUJ helmsman expressed hope for a smooth transition in administration and a more cordial relationship in terms of press freedom and welfare provisions in the state and in Nigeria for journalists, just as he promised that members of the profession will continue playing their watchdog assiduously without fear or favour.
