Safana local government area in Katsina State has reached a peace agreement with armed bandits in a bid to curb persistent attacks and restore security to the region.
Local sources confirmed that the deal was brokered after a series of meetings between community leaders, security agencies, and representatives of the bandits. The agreement is said to involve a cessation of hostilities, with the armed groups pledging to halt kidnappings, cattle rustling, and raids on villages.
In return, community leaders have committed to facilitating dialogue, supporting reintegration efforts, and discouraging residents from engaging in acts that could reignite hostilities.
This development follows similar agreements recently reached in other parts of the state, as Katsina authorities continue to explore non-kinetic strategies to address insecurity. However, concerns remain among residents over the sustainability of such deals, given previous instances where similar arrangements collapsed.
