The Department of State Services has said it had received information about plans by certain individuals and groups to hold protests in several parts of the country on Democracy Day.
The service explained that the protesters intentionally scheduled the protest to align with democracy day celebrations for malicious purposes.
A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications of the service, Peter Afunanya, said the right to assembly guaranteed by the constitution should not be used to undermine national security.
He stressed that the plans by some non-state actors to cause widespread dissatisfaction through potentially violent protests would be met with zero tolerance.
