The Nigeria Broadcasting Commission – NBC yesterday performed the opening ceremony of a 2-day Capacity Building and Retreat for NBC Board Members and Management on Digital Switchover implementation with the forecast that the digital terrestrial television project, which is an impressive technical feat, will accomplish its national security imperative and will on the long run offer a major platform to create new jobs for Nigerians.
The Director General – DG NBC, Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, in his remarks at the event held at Ibom Icon Hotel Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, invited all hands to be on deck in initiating policies that will advance the project.
He listed the challenges facing the commission, including the recent judgment barring it from fining broadcast stations.
Also in his speech, the chairman of the NBC board, Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, noted that it has worked hard to ensure some level of stability in the system including a recommendation to President Muhammadu Buhari for more licenses to be approved for the operation of broadcast stations in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom state government, Doctor Emmanuel Ekuwem, who was represented by the Director General Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation, Dr Anietie Ukpe, spoke on the importance of investing more in ICT as a nation.
