Akwa Ibom state Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have join their counterparts nationwide to begin the strike action they first announced a week ago, with affiliate unions joining the industrial action.
In a series of posts on their social media platforms, the NLC shared circulars to other unions, indicating their compliance with the directive. The unions include; National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees-NUBIFIE, Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics-SSANIP, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics- ASUP among others. While assuring members of further updates about the nationwide strike, the organized labour urged them to remain assured of their commitment to Nigerian workers and the people.
MEANWHILE, The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has directed its members to join the nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress TUC.
ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke made the announcement in a statement, noting that the strike is necessary to protect the interests of Nigerian workers and the leadership of the union. Osodeke also added that the zonal coordinators and branch chairpersons should immediately mobilize the members to participate in the action.
