As the world marks the 2024 International Day of education with the theme “learning for lasting peace”, people have been urged to demonstrate commitment in celebrating the pivotal role of education in fostering peace and development.

Speaking with our Correspondent, Uwakmfon Walter, an NGO educator, Unyime Asuquo provided insights into the obstacles hindering universal education, effects of inadequate education, and the reforms to be taken to enhance access to education for all.

 

Speaking in commemoration of the day, the NGO educator urged Learners from all backgrounds to embrace inclusivity, regardless of gender or societal status, emphasizing that inclusive education is key to creating a society where everyone has equal opportunities to learn and grow.

 

According to reports, 250 million children and youth are currently not enrolled in schools, 763 million adults lack literacy skills, and young refugees face educational deprivation, being denied their right to education.

The International Day of Education Celebrated annually on January 24, was established by the UNITED NATIONS EDUCATIONAL, SCIENTIFIC AND CULTURAL ORGANIZATION, UNESCO, To Advocate For quality access to Education and transformative power in building a better and more Harmonious future.
