Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan files counter-affidavit, challenges Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s appeal at Supreme Court

Member representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a counter-affidavit before the Supreme Court of Nigeria in opposition to an appeal instituted by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, arising from proceedings at the Court of Appeal.

According to the court documents, the counter-affidavit was deposed to by a Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and filed in response to Senator Akpabio’s Motion on Notice dated January 21, 2026.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is urging the Supreme Court to dismiss Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s appeal, saying it is an abuse of court process and an attempt to delay judgment already reserved by the Court of Appeal. She argues that Akpabio’s brief was rejected for violating page-limit rules and that his appeal is incompetent because it raised mixed law and fact without required court approval.

The Kogi Central Senatorial District lawmaker also denied any breach of fair hearing, insisting that the Court of Appeal acted within its discretion, therefore asking the Supreme Court to dismiss the application in full.
