Nigeria’s next opponent at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will be confirmed today.
Reports say that the Super Eagles are through to the Round of 16 as Group A runners-up. According to CAF’s official schedule, this means Jose Peseiro’s men will play the team that finishes second in Group C.
The final positions in Group C will be determined later today. Senegal currently lead the way in group C with six points from two matches. However, their last group match against Guinea has significant implications.
A win for Guinea who are second with four points, would propel them to the top of the group while Senegal would drop to second place, setting up a showdown with Nigeria in the knockout stage. However, a draw or a Senegal win would see the Teranga Lions maintain their position at the summit, ensuring Guinea finish second and become Nigeria’s last-16 adversary.
