FRSC to Prosecute TikToker Peller After Road Crash, Warns Celebrities Against Reckless Driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to investigate and prosecute popular TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a road crash allegedly linked to his engagement in a live social media stream while driving.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed concern over what he described as a growing trend of celebrities and social media influencers flouting traffic laws in pursuit of online attention and clout.

In a statement signed by the FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, Mohammed condemned Peller’s actions, describing them as dangerous and unlawful. He noted that such behaviour could have led to serious injuries or loss of lives.

“Live streaming, content creation, or engaging in any activity that distracts a driver while on the road is a direct violation of traffic regulations and endangers all road users,” the statement said.

Following the incident, the FRSC boss directed the Lagos State Sector Commander to commence all necessary procedures for the prosecution of the individual involved. The alleged offences include reckless driving, distracted driving, and the use of a mobile phone while driving.

Mohammed also called on actors’ guilds, entertainment bodies, and influencer networks to educate their members on responsible behaviour on the roads. He stressed that celebrities have significant influence, particularly among young Nigerians, and should serve as ambassadors of road safety rather than promoters of dangerous conduct.

He warned that the FRSC would apply the full weight of the law against anyone found engaging in unsafe driving practices, emphasizing that no social media trend or online fame is worth endangering human lives.

The Corps Marshal further urged all road users to remember that public roads are shared spaces governed by laws meant to protect lives, and encouraged Nigerians to report dangerous driving behaviours to support collective road safety efforts.
