People urged to advocate gender equality as 2024 International women’s day is marked today
People urged to advocate gender equality as 2024 International women’s day is marked today

 

As Nigerians join the global community to mark the 2024 international women’s day, Individuals, communities, and leaders have been urged to recognize the cultural, political, social, and economic achievements made by women from all walks of life, including those from marginalized communities.  

This comes as today marks the international women’s day established by the United Nations aiming to advocate for an action from both men and women to accelerate gender parity. 

Speaking with our correspondent , Uwakmfon Walter, Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Akwa Ibom State chapter, Dr Emem Abraham emphasized the need for a level playing ground for women’s inclusion in leadership and society, stressing that everyone has unique strengths, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society.

Also speaking in commemoration of the day, women in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital also advocated for government policies supporting their involvement in economic, political, and social spheres, while commending the efforts of the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno and Wife, Patience Eno, for promoting women’s inclusion in governance.

Meanwhile, the theme for this year’s commemoration is Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ which highlights the significance of diversity and empowerment across all sectors of the society.
