As part of activities to mark the 60th Diamond birthday of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, Akwa Ibom’s foremost construction giant, VKS Nigeria Construction Limited has visited and donated food items and toiletries to the Handmaid of the Holy Child Jesus, HHCJ Orphanage in Ifuho and St Louise’s Inclusive School, both in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.
The visit which was at the instance of the company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Engineer Oliver Ebong, was aimed at identifying with the vulnerable and physically challenged as Akwa Ibom people at home and in the diaspora celebrate and thank God for the life of the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno who clocked 60 yesterday.
Items donated included; birthday cakes, bags of rice, garri, gallons of vegetable oil, tubers of yam, rolls of tissue paper, cartons of milk, milo, fruit juice, biscuits, snacks and indomie instant noodles, among others.
Receiving the delegation at the HHCJ Orphanage, Ifuho, Ikot Ekpene, Reverend Sister Maria Emmanuel Tim, thanked VKS for the visit, stating that the visit will go a long way to bring smiles and succour to the beneficiaries.
She lauded the state Governor for identifying with the poor, vulnerable and physically challenged in the society at a time and in a symbolic celebration most of his contemporaries would have chosen to celebrate exclusively with the elites, and prayed for God’s abundant blessings to the Governor and VKS Nigeria Construction Limited.
Also, at St Louise’s Inclusive School, Ikot Ekpene, the team was received by the School Administrator, Reverend Sister Joyce Ikott, of the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent De Paul, and the children who could not hold back their joy, prayed for the Governor and Engr Oliver Ebong for identifying with them on the occasion of the Governor’s birthday.
According to Sister Ikott, the visit came at a time they never expected, submitting that apart from the surprise visit, the ideological philosophy behind the gesture has once more proven that Governor Umo Eno is indeed God sent for the poor and lowly in Akwa Ibom State.
She lauded Engr Oliver Ebong for always remembering the school and for his past interventions which has helped the school management provide a conducive learning and living environment that has helped in the integration, rehabilitation and technical empowerment through vocational training and skill acquisition for the children.
In her remarks, the Executive Assistant, VKS Nigeria Construction Limited, Victoria Okon, said the visit was the company’s own way of appreciating the children and to put smiles on their faces as the State Governor clocks 60.
She noted that VKS will continue to identify with the vulnerable and physically challenged as part of its strategic Corporate Social Responsibility CSR, and thanked the School Administrator for the warm reception and hospitality accorded the team.
The VKS delegation was led by the company’s Executive Assistant, Victoria Okon and her colleague Mary Nelson. Others included; Anthony Akpan, Micheal Ukpong and a Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Daniel Etokidem.
